Firefighter/Paramedic Heather Gehring helps Isaiah from his wheelchair onto a carnival ride at the Clark County Fair.

The Clark County Fair provides fun family entertainment every August. The Memory Makers program gives children with medical challenges and their families the opportunity to enjoy the Fair, too. Sponsorships from the Clark County Fair, People’s Community Credit Union, and Butler Amusement, as well as free transportation from American Medical Response make it possible. This year we were able to bring three children from Providence Child Center for the Medically Fragile and three children from Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital and their families to the Fair. These children’s serious medical conditions make it difficult to attend events such as these. Their escorts were Fire District 6 firefighter/paramedics and firefighter/emergency medical technicians volunteering their time on behalf of the International Association of Firefighters, Local 1805. The children and their families enjoyed seeing all the animals, the "How the West was Fun" programs and the carnival rides as well as sampling the variety of Fair food offered. This program continues to be extremely successful and rewarding.
