We don’t like blowing our own horn, but you’ll have to excuse us for one moment for a little trumpet solo. Last week District 6 won the coveted Washington Fire Commissioners Association Management Excellence Award. It’s given to the District that judges deem performed best in Operations, Logistics, Finances, Public Outreach, and more. The judges are not in the fire service, rather they are impartial professionals from other public and private organizations. Fire District 6 competes in the “A” class, which is the catagory of largest Districts in Washington State
“It’s nice to be acknowledged by outside sources that we’re doing the right thing,” says District 6 Commissioner, Brad Lothspeich. “We haven’t entered for ten years, so this is a nice reward.”
The judges also look at how Districts spend taxpayers money. Scoring well in this category is especially satisfying, considering how important it is to use financial resources wisely. “2020 provided a year of great challenges and demands, but more importantly a year of optimistic growth, planning and leadership that set the course of District 6 on a positive path for the future,” says Fire Chief Kristan Maurer.
So thanks to the WFCA for this recognition, and to citizens who trust us to serve you.
