Fire Academy is tough. It is physically demanding and mentally challenging. And last week 11 firefighters graduated from our first-ever Fire Academy on District 6 soil. It’s the largest-ever graduating class of “lateral” firefighters. That means they have all been firefighters–but in other departments and districts. The Academy is a method of teaching them the “District 6 way”, and they all passed with flying colors. Thanks to our district voters for approving the money needed to make this happen. As a result, we are not running a second engine out of Station 63, which will enable us to keep up with the growing community and increasing number of emergency calls. If you’ve ever wondered what firefighters do during a Fire Academy…wonder no more!
